Subject: Unsolicited testimonial — work by Dr Stanley Karanja Ng'ang'a
It is an unusual pleasure to receive a review like Stanley's — this impelled me to write to you.
Dear Dr. Ana Maria and Dr. Evan, I am writing to let you know how pleased I am with the work of your colleague Dr. Stanley Karanja Ng'ang'a, who has carried out an excellent review of a draft socio-economic manuscript in a research topic that I am co-editing.
The review raises important conceptual and data issues — both broad and specific — which the authors need to take into account. It is very thorough. Stanley went the extra mile in requesting the underlying data from the authors and attempting to replicate the results, as well as performing careful cross-checks of text and tables. This makes my job as editor much easier, and should greatly add to the value of the paper, and provide confidence in the results.
The quality of reviews received has been variable and at times disappointing — and while this is understandable given all the other pressures on researchers, it is an unusual pleasure to receive a review like Stanley's. This impelled me to write to you.
Kindest regards, Julia

What collaborators say about the Founder (Dr Stanley)
A 20-year track record of excellence — in the words of those who know it best
Stanley's grasp of economic analysis and cost-benefit assessment is exceptional. Even though he was not part of our original team, his expertise was so indispensable that we invited him to collaborate — not once, but multiple times. He brings rigour, clarity, and depth that genuinely elevates the quality of any project he joins.

Stanley is relentless in the best possible way — he will not let work go until it is done to perfection. Over seven years of supervising his MSc and PhD, mentoring his career, and working alongside him at ILRI, I watched him grow into one of the most dependable and talented development economists I have had the privilege of working with.

After several years of supervising Stanley, I can say without hesitation — if you have data sitting unused or forgotten, get it to him. He will find the story buried within it, shape it into something compelling, and make sure it gets published and reaches the people who need it most.

Stanley is a true asset to many research communities. Having studied together at Wageningen, worked alongside each other at ILRI, and co-authored published research, I have seen his excellence up close across every dimension — as a thinker, a collaborator, and a scientist.

Stanley has a truly rare gift as an educator. Students who once feared economics now embrace it with confidence — and their academic results speak for themselves. The University of Nairobi is proud to have him as a lecturer in Agricultural Economics.
